Questions players ask
What are the notes of standard tuning?
From the thickest string to the thinnest: E A D G B E (E2, A2, D3, G3, B3 and E4). The 6th string is the low E and the 1st string is the high E.
Is the tuner recording me?
No. The microphone is only on while the tuner runs, and the sound is analysed inside your browser. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. Tap Stop tuner or leave the page and the mic switches off.
Why won't the needle settle?
Pluck one string at a time and stop the others ringing. Pluck gently near the middle of the string and give the note a second to settle. A quiet room helps, and so does holding your phone close to the guitar.
What does A 440 mean?
It is the reference pitch the tuner measures against: the A above middle C at 440 Hz, the standard. Some players tune to 432 or 442; change it with the − and + buttons.
Does it work for drop D and open tunings?
Yes. Choose a tuning from the menu and the string buttons and targets change to match: Drop D, Drop C, half step and full step down, Open G, Open D and DADGAD.
